Huge damages from floods have been a annual occurence for people in Popovo Polje, mainly Ravno municipality, in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Eight years after the first complaints were filed, the court system has done nothing.

The water rises, when the excess water is let out of accumulations of Trebišnjica river. The inhabitants have filed charges with the court against Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska (public electric utility company), but even after  handling the case for eight years, not even the first-instance decision has been made. In the meantime, time is running out for the people who suffered the damages.

The inhabitants of municipality Ravno started to work on fruit production with more intensity, and the whole area of Popovo polje valley has based its production on agriculture and tourism, but the water wave destroyed everything in 2004.

The story was broadcasted on March 29, 2012 on radio station Studio 99, and on the following radio stations: Radio Studio N, Radio Posušje, Radio Konjic, Radio Ljubuški  and Radio Korona from Trebinje.

The story was made in  Ravno and Mostar between 10th January and 25th Marth by Željka Mihaljević, journalist and co-owner of Radio N, Livno. (Photo: Freedigitalphotos)
